Đông Hồ woodblock printing

A print begins before the paper

Original interpretive vector study. Not a reproduction of the museum object. Original artwork by The Common Room, 2026. CC BY 4.0.

UNESCO documents a village practice of making coloured prints with carved wooden blocks. The finished sheet hides a sequence of preparation, carving and printing. Read it beside the Taller de Gráfica Popular: the reproducible image depends on work that takes place before multiplication. Shared technique does not establish a shared programme or a direct connection between the workshops. This record describes a craft rather than dating an individual print. Nor does it speak for rural southern Vietnam, a gap that remains in this collection and needs separate research.
