Folding Nixon poster

The fold is the message

A fold can be more than damage or a convenient way to post a sheet. Alfredo Rostgaard's 1972 poster for OSPAAAL changes its image when opened: a portrait of Richard Nixon becomes a monstrous figure. The paper's physical state is part of its political argument. Founded after the 1966 Tricontinental Conference in Havana, OSPAAAL used graphic design in support of anti-imperialist movements. Examining the fold makes the mechanism of persuasion visible; it does not require accepting the poster's judgement or treating propaganda as a neutral record.
