Morris belongs in this room as a socialist thinker as well as a designer. This 1893 pamphlet edition, catalogued by the University of Iowa, asks us to judge labour by the life it makes possible. Our reading follows a demanding idea: shorter drudgery, time for rest and meaningful creation are questions of social organisation, not rewards reserved for those able to buy beautiful things.
