A public made of paper

Printing, political imagination and the means to speak.

Original interpretive vector study. Not a reproduction of the museum object.

The page is an infrastructure

A political idea needs more than an author. It needs tools, materials, readers, money and routes of circulation. Commonweal is our starting point because it makes socialist writing into a repeated practice: a public sustained through publication and argument. The printed object is a piece of organisation.

New forms for new readers

A thumb index, a photomontage and a repeated pictogram each change a reader’s relation to the page. Formal invention can open access and make a collective voice possible. But clarity and force are not evidence of truth. Study what a design enables—and the authority it asks you to grant it.

Across a border, into a hand

OSPAAAL makes international solidarity into a graphic network; the fold makes a reader perform part of its argument. The intimate Pro eto reminds us that radical forms also carry private feeling. Political culture grows through many voices and uses, not one official register.
